Sharing clothes - research on the internet (in progress)

Hello everybody

Our team did some research on the internet this week.

In a first step we searched for "clothes to rent" and found out that some special clothes like high quality wedding dresses and suits are already for rent in some online shops.

Until now we haven't found any online shops that "share clothes". We understand that it is difficult to share clothes because of the following;

- The bodysize must be the same or else the clothes will get ugly with the time

- An uncarful person may cause damage to your clothes

- You need the clothes while it's rented to another person

We did some further resarch on how much clothes is getting wasted every year.

As an example of this we found out that every year 20 percent of the newly produced clothes are destroyed unworn by companies like Zalando. We thougt about an idea to reduce this waste by sharing those clothes. You can offer them to homeless people in the winter but also to regular people to wear it for a short amount of time and then give/share it with another person. This concept is the base of our app that we want to create. By bringing those unworn clothes in the market homeless poeple don't need to buy clothes. People who just want to wear another style can also profit off it by wearing it for a certain amount of time and then give/share it with another person.

Then we went on to the Task Miss Suter gave us. The question was to determine how much energy can be saved when 10 poeple would do it/wouldn't do it.

Sharing clothes - what ressources can we save

We have thougt very intensively and long about all the ressources we can save by sharing clothes. We came up with These materials:

- cotton
- polyester

- Nylon

- leather

- flax

- wool

- Denim

- ramie

- silk

- fur

- down filled parkas

- spandex

While thinking about all the different materials, we came up with a slightly new idea. We can share  the clothes but it would be possible to rent clothes. There are already some start-ups in the USA for example the company "rent to runway".

There are other materials you would not think about in the first second.

- zipper

- shoe laces

- Velcro fastener

Sharing clothes

Hello everybody

We had the idea of clothes-sharing. That means we share clothes so we have a bigger variety of different styles. We can share hoodies, trowsers, shoes, caps and much more.

With this experiment we want to find out more about different clothes and about the convenience of clothes-sharing. In a long term it should prevent people from buying to much from the stores and online-stores. Instead we want people to get to share their clothes.

There will of course be problems with sharing the clothes. First of all not everbody has the same height, which is probably the biggest difficulty. A small person can't fit the clothes of a taller person and vice-versa. As well as this it could be also a problem because not everybody has the same style. On the other hand it will be very interesting to wear different styles of different person.

Best regards

Financing of environmental protection through income from cannabis legalization

Calculation of income

We want to find out how much government revenue can be genarated by legalizing cannabis. In Switzerland we consume 60 tonnes of cannabis per year. One gramm costs about 10 francs.

60 t = 60'000'000 g

60'000'000 g x 10 francs = 600 Milion francs

When cannabis would be legal, the state could charge a tax and invest each year in environmental protection. With already 20 percent they woud have 120 Millions per year to invest.

Street Survey

What do the people think of cannabis and would they legalize it.

What do the people think where this money should be invested in? Is it environmental protection or drug prevention.

Ask further questions on this topic.

Production of hemp

Find out the costs of the hemp production by vistiting a plantation:

- water

- electicity

- fertilizer

- general costs (wage , rent, salaries and security for plentation)

We want to visit the company BioCan. BioCan is Switzerland's largest producer of legal hemp. We will write an email and ask if we can come for a visit and an Interview.

Investments in environmental protection

- solar energy

Currently, the photovoltaic prices are on averge 1'500 francs per kWp. For one average photovoltic system for a single-family dwelling costs in the purchase of less than 8'000 francs. The state could start by purchesing and installing these sytems on the roofs of the houses owned by the state.

- find other ways to invest the money, for example in wind energy, electic cars and planting trees.

Improvement Food Apps

Both apps are good, but there is a lot to improve.

App Prototype 2 (short)

  • It is not necessary to mention the taste of the food.
  •  There could have been more interesting questions about the food.

App Prototype 1 (Long)

  •  On the mobile you can't open the map
  •  there are too many questions.
  •  it takes too long.
  • It's not necessary to take a photo of your food for an evaluation

comment on "Chicken consumption"

As vegetarianism is getting a real hype in the past few years, it's a great topic to do research on. It also is a subject with influence on the future relating to global warming. That point of view I missed in your report.

The Interview with Mr. Erwin Kündig from the "Heggenhof" was interesting and opened my eyes on the overconsumption of meat in our society. Eating meat twice a day just like Mr. Kündig is too much.

I am impressed about the fact that you have collected this much data for the diagrams. They are realy good!
